Dean is an experienced attorney who concentrates his practice in all areas of labor and employment law. He advises and represents all types of businesses on a broad range of employment issues. Dean works with employers on issues such as union avoidance and labor relations, discrimination and harassment, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, OSHA, trade secrets, employment contracts, and restrictive covenants. Dean regularly represents clients in state and federal courts, as well as in in administrative forums, and before arbitrators and mediators.

Dean was born into a Navy family and traveled the world as he was growing up. After law school, Dean settled in Virginia Beach where he married his wife and raised his daughter. Dean has remained at the same law firm through his entire professional career. He continues to enjoy travel and seeing the world.

Experience

  • Obtained pre-trial dismissal for management of numerous and varied federal employment discrimination claims.
  • Prevailed for management in labor arbitration involving interpretation of terms of collectively-bargained drug and alcohol program and challenge to legality of program under new state law.
  • Prevailed in United States District Court and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in a precedent-setting case involving the assignment of a non-compete agreement.
  • Represented management client in labor negotiations involving multiple collective bargaining agreements covering approximately 2,500 employees.
