Legal Assistant, Family Law (Roanoke, VA)

Woods Rogers is seeking to hire a Legal Assistant to support our Family Law practice. The Legal Assistant assists attorneys and legal staff in all aspects of the Family Law practice, including managing case files, drafting legal documents, scheduling appointments, and communicating with clients. The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a legal assistant in a Family Law practice. 

This is a full-time, non-exempt, in-office position at our Roanoke, VA office. The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM with an unpaid lunch break.   

Required Qualifications 

  • Previous experience working as a legal assistant. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with clients and colleagues.  
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while also maintaining a high level of professionalism when dealing with emotionally charged subject matter.  
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive client information.   
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook. 

Responsibilities 

  • Provide day-to-day secretarial support to the Firm’s attorneys, including scheduling meetings, fielding potential client inquiries, answering phone calls, and processing incoming and outgoing mail.  
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and revising legal documents, including petitions, motions, affidavits, agreements, and correspondence. 
  • File legal documents with the appropriate courts and ensure timely service to relevant parties. 
  • Maintain and organize case files, ensuring all documents are up-to-date and accessible. 
  • Monitor case schedules, including court dates, deadlines, and attorney appointments. 
  • Schedule client meetings, interviews, and consultations. 
  • Follow established procedures to refer and coordinate conflict checks as needed.    
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
