Regulatory Associate (Richmond, VA)

Position Summary:

An associate attorney admitted to practice in Virginia and exercises independent judgment and discretion to perform substantive legal functions in client matters. Maintains positive contact with clients and observes confidentiality in client matters. Participates in the firm’s marketing efforts and is responsible for client development. May be assigned to work independently or under the supervision of other attorneys employed by the firm. This is a partnership track position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains membership in state bar and completes all required Continuing Legal Education requirements on an annual basis.
  • Follows the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the state and complies with all requirements of the firm’s professional liability insurer.
  • Performs discovery of various electronically stored data and hard copies of information in preparation for litigation.
  • Reviews and analyzes newly assigned and existing matters in order to provide legal representation until the matter is concluded.
  • Drafts all necessary documents to provide legal representation to clients and routes them through the appropriate office procedures to produce final documents.
  • Performs necessary legal research and analysis of the law on complex issues.
  • Writes briefs for submission to a supervising lawyer in the firm using various methods to include libraries and computer data systems.
  • Formulates and issues well-founded legal opinions to clients.
  • Communicates regularly with clients regarding the status of their matter.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of SCC regulatory law and legal practice in order to perform substantive legal function in client matters.
  • Analytical skills necessary to conduct complex and detailed analysis of legal matters.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate by e-mail and telephone with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
  • Ability to travel to private and public buildings locally and statewide via private or public conveyance to attend to client needs on legal matters.
  • Work requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.

Education/Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (JD)
  • Member of applicable state bar (or have an expectation of becoming a member)
