Beth Burgin Waller Shares Insight on Proposed Cyber Security Act for Australian Companies
Woods Rogers Principal and leader of our Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Practice Beth Waller, was quoted in Dark Reading on July 31, discussing a move Australian companies may have to make when paying ransom payments. The requirement is part of a proposed Cyber Security Act, set to be brought before the Australian parliament in the next few weeks.
"The goal with such laws is to allow governments to have insight into funds going to bad actors in order to be able to track those payments and hopefully bring criminals to justice," Beth told Dark Reading in an interview. "With laws like this popping up locally across the globe, it creates a patchwork quilt of compliance for multi-national organizations with perhaps a headquarters in the United States but significant operations in Australia.”
