Talking about Workplace Romances with Leah Stiegler

On the Dear Human Resources podcast, Woods Rogers principal and management-side employment lawyer Leah Stiegler joined host Marie-Line Germain, Ph.D., to discuss how employers can effectively manage team members who get involved in workplace romances. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) reported in 2023 that 27% of people said they have experienced a workplace romance, making this an important issue for today’s employers to navigate.

Leah suggests that prohibiting workplace relationships is hard in today’s world, so it’s important to be clear about boundaries, especially regarding company technology – and enforce them. Leah recommends that employers have the team members involved in a workplace romance sign a “love contract” that establishes expectations to maintain the integrity of the work environment.
