Thomas M. Winn III Inducted into Virginia Law Foundation’s Class of Fellows 2024
Tom Winn, Woods Rogers Vandeventer Black (WRVB) Principal and CFO, was inducted into the Virginia Law Foundation Fellows Class of 2024. Fellows memberships is an honor bestowed annually upon Virginia lawyers who are recognized as outstanding citizen lawyers committed to the highest ideals of the law.
As firm Chairman Victor Cardwell stated, “Work isn't what defines Tom – it's the love of the practice and the love of giving back.”
Tom is co-chair of the firm's Labor & Employment practice group and devotes much of his attention to labor/management relations and NLRB matters. Peers have commented that “he is one of the most recognized traditional labor lawyers in Virginia.” Tom takes a holistic approach to representing his clients by ensuring he understands the organization's big picture and best interests. He uses his practice not only to help his clients but to show that the law and lawyers fight for the greater good. There are many opportunities for labor and employment attorneys to take a scorched-earth approach when advising clients and handling negotiations, but Tom operates on the fundamental notion that every person deserves respect, whether it's his client, the opposing client, or their counsel.
Tom’s service to the community has included roles on boards of directors and in groups such as the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America, Opera Roanoke, Pathfinders for Greenways and DePaul Community Resources. Currently, Tom sits on the American Red Cross of Southwest Virginia board and on the governance committee of the Virginia Bar Association. He has also held positions on the VBA’s Board of Governors, the committee on federal judgeships, and in the VBA’s Labor & Employment Law Section.
Tom began his career with the firm when he was in college, working in the mail room and copy center in the summer. After graduating from law school, he joined the firm as an associate, and he has been practicing with the firm for over 30 years. Among many other recognitions, Chambers USA named Tom as a leading Virginia attorney in the Labor and Employment practice area.
Tom’s induction is a complement to the list of WRVB Virginia Law Foundation Fellows, including Rich Maxwell (2020), Lee Osborne (2013), Ray King (2008), Mark Loftis (2008), James Jennings (1997), Talfourd Kemper (1994), Anita Poston (1994), and Robin Wood (1992).
