Woods Rogers Celebrates the Return of FloydFest in Southwest Virginia

Firm News

Alex Saunders and Team Woods Rogers (principally Dan Summerlin) have a lot to celebrate following the success of FloydFest 2024.

Alex and the team were instrumental in helping a local landowner clear legal and regulatory hurdles plaguing the opening of the outdoor festival in Floyd County, Virginia. The Festival was originally started approximately 20 years ago but was located in Patrick County. The popular summer event was cancelled in 2023, after the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) informed developers that there were complex regulatory requirements that were further needed for a state-approved plan. Festival organizers worked diligently to reduce the festival's impact on local streams and wetlands, and inevitably state regulators approved development plans for FloydFest's new location in the Check community of Floyd County.

FloydFest 2024 continues to draw rave reviews. The five-day event ending July 28 featured more than 100 live performances and bands on seven different stages. Spanning 200 acres, the new site gave attendees room to enjoy a wide range of festival activities and food, as well as adjacent wilderness trails. The festival included special events for children, ring and acrobatic performances, and a variety of lawn games such as disc golf and corn hole. Approximately 11,000 guests enjoyed FloydFest 2024 at its new location.
