Rich advises creditors in complex bankruptcy proceedings and serves as a Bankruptcy Subchapter V Trustee. Under Rich’s counsel, a $50 million manufacturing company was able to reorganize and emerge from bankruptcy within 90 days.  

Rich is a fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy and serves on the Planning Committee for the Mid-Atlantic Institute on Bankruptcy and Reorganization Practice. He also edits and writes about the enforcement of liens and judgments for the Virginia Law Foundation. He is a past director and chairman of the Bankruptcy Section of the Virginia State Bar. He also served as the President of the Roanoke Bar Association.

Rich graduated cum laude from University of Richmond’s law school, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, an honor society for law school graduates.

Rich has been selected a member of the 2023 Virginia Lawyers Hall of Fame, Virginia Lawyers Weekly. He has also been named to the Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers Business Edition and Virginia Super Lawyers rankings. He is on Virginia Business magazine's "Legal Elite" list and holds a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating.

Rich's community activities in the Roanoke area include having served on the boards of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, the Clean Valley Council, and the National D-Day Memorial Foundation.
